IMPORTANT NOTICE - PROFICIENCY POINT RULE CHANGE

Author:

Date Published:
November 1, 2012

In response to suggestions from our athletes that are participating in more USA dance competitions each year, the DanceSport Council reviewed the impact of "pointing-out" prior to Nationals.

As a result, we are pleased to announce this modification to the Proficiency Points rules to be included in the next revision of the rulebook.

"Proficiency points are accumulated in every USA Dance sanctioned event in which an athlete couple dances, however each athlete's proficiency level will be calculated annually, immediately following the conclusion of the USA Dance National DanceSport Championships. The proficiency level of an athlete on that day will be the proficiency level at which he/she is allowed to compete through the conclusion of the succeeding year's USA Dance National DanceSport Championship, regardless of results throughout that year."

This rule change is retroactive to the 2012 Nationals. Your proficiency level as of the Monday after the 2012 National DanceSport Championship...is your proficiency level through (and including) 2013 National DanceSport Championships.

This does not preclude a couple from moving up a proficiency level when they believe they are ready.

If you have any questions about the new rule, please let me know.
